Fairy Meadows National Park is located in Diamer District, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. The park is also known as Joot by the locals. The name Fairy Meadows National Park was named by German Climbers. In 1995, the Fairy Meadows was officially declared as a National Park by the Government of Pakistan. 1.   Location –

The park is about 3,300 meters high, located in the Diamer District of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. The national park is located in the Raikhot Valley. It is a grassland, at one end of the Raikhot glacier feeds a stream that finally falls in Indus River.

Locals have operated camping sites in the area since 1992.

2.   How To Reach there –

To visit there, a jeepable trek of about fifteen kilometers long starting from Raikhot bridge on Karakoram Highway to the Tato village. From Tato, a three to four hours hiking by a five kilometer trek can be used to reach Fairy Meadows.

 3.   Flora And Fauna –

Alpine forest is almost everywhere in the National Park. It consists of coniferous forest having Pinus wallichiana, Picea smithiana and Abies pindrow trees in the north facing slopes as well as in high altitude areas. Most of the southern slopes are well concentrated with Juniperus excelsa and J. turkesticana.

The major plant found is Artemisia with yellow ash, pinus gerardiana in the low altitudes. There are some similarities shown by a research between Pinus wallichiana with a sister species. The pinus peuce can be found in the Balkans. Famous for its places and views of mountains, sometimes you can see brown bears in the region.

It is regarded as an endangered species, musk deers are also present in the National Park.

It is completely depending on when you are going to visit the park. In Fairy Meadows, sometimes you might walk on a snow covered trail. Prepare yourself according to the time of visit to the park. In October, a normal pair of shoes is fine for you and your friends and family.

The road to reach the National Park is a dangerous high mountain track with a total of 16.2 k.m. length. Not just a normal high mountain track, the Fairy Meadows road has been ranked as the 2nd world’s deadliest roads in the world. The road is closed in winter due to heavy snowfall/rain and extreme windy weather. The road is only accessible in summer times.

6.   Best Time To Visit –

You can visit there in either April – May or September – October. This season is preferably considered as the shoulder seasons. The weather might be a bit colder, but you are more likely to stay in the Fairy Meadows in both April – May or September – October. Famous for its amazing mountain views and weather,it is a popular tourist attraction.

Most of the crowd visit the park in the peak times, it is good for you to avoid the peak times to visit this very beautiful place.

There are a lot of resorts to stay. Greenland Resort is one of them. This resort is very famous in Fairy Meadows due to its very clear and best view of the Nanga Parbat. A less expensive resort, the rooms are clean, well-built and the food also costs around 150-500 Pakistani Rupee only. If you are a lover of mountains, this resort is amazing for you due to its amazing view of Nanga Parbat as well as of Fairy Meadows.
